“An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.” —Benjamin Franklin
The math is simple. Our district simply cannot meet all the needs of our students.
State funding has been on a steady decline. According to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, states across the country are providing less per-pupil funding for primary and secondary education than they did in the past. In fact, state funding for elementary and high schools is at or below 2008 levels in thirty-five states – including Ohio.
Without adequate funding and resources, our students – and our community – suffer. The Sylvania School district has lost $11 million per year in state funding cuts since 2010 while adopting unfunded state mandates. We continue to strive to do more with less.
Three decades ago, the Sylvania Academic Excellence Foundation stepped forward to supplement our children’s education — and their futures. We are committed to funding whatever makes our students critical thinkers, problem solvers, and graduates poised to compete in the global marketplace. Our students are eager and ready to make a difference, and they are counting on us to make sure that happens.
The Foundation will continue to partner with donors and businesses to provide the tools, technology, and teaching and learning best practices for our community’s children.
You can help!
The Sylvania Academic Excellence Foundation is always seeking donations to help fulfill our commitment of giving back to the classroom. Each year, the Foundation provides money to enrich the district’s overall academic endeavors, as well as providing scholarship monies to deserving graduates from both high schools. Your donation is tax-deductible.
If you prefer, you may simply mail a check to: Academic Excellence Foundation, 4747 N. Holland Sylvania Road, Sylvania, Ohio 43560. Donations over $1,000 can be named in your honor or in the name of someone you choose.
